Asbestos Inspections In Lower Manhattan, Williamsburg, Bushwick, Greenpoint, NYC, Brooklyn, New York City, and the Surrounding Areas
Do you have a construction or remodeling project coming up for your home or building in New York City, Lower Manhattan, Williamsburg, Bushwick, Greenpoint, or the surrounding areas? If you do and this is your first time doing so, then you may not be aware of the need to have an asbestos inspection in your building.
At Coastal Inspections Testing, we are certified with the State of New York as a licensed asbestos investigator, which allows us to legally perform site inspections on your behalf as a property owner, a management company, real estate agent, architect, or general contractor to determine if there are any materials that might contain asbestos that will be disturbed with your plans.
This is a requirement of many municipalities in NYC and we can provide you with a written report of the results and an ACP-5 certificate if it is confirmed that no asbestos will be disturbed during the project. Before you start any construction or remodeling, be sure to contact us first to get your asbestos inspection completed.
Understanding Asbestos and The Need for Inspections
Asbestos, as we know now, contributes to a number of health issues, even in small quantities. But why was asbestos used in the first place?
It has many qualities that made it good for fireproofing and insulation in buildings, insulation for pipes and boilers, roofing shingles, floor and ceiling tiles, putties, calks, paints, and many more applications and products. Asbestos was used for many years, and there are still many products and applications that exist that contain asbestos.
After many years of use, anytime asbestos-containing items are subject to disturbance, special care needs to happen to deal with it. When asbestos is present there are several different abatement options available, including repairing, encapsulating, or removing, with each of these offering different costs.
Professional Asbestos Testing
Due to the high negative issues associated with asbestos to humans, anytime there is a construction or remodeling project going on in a building, with rare exceptions, an asbestos inspection must be done by a licensed asbestos investigator with a report written that details if the planned project will affect any asbestos-containing materials and will demonstrate the materials tested.
As a licensed asbestos investigator, we are legally allowed to take samples of building materials in order to test them in an accredited laboratory. From these results we will write up our inspection report, and if needed, can fill out an ACP-5 report to submit to the Department of Buildings in New York City (NYCDOB).
Filing The ACP-5 Report
An ACP-5 report certifies that based on the scope of the work involved in the project, no asbestos will be disturbed during the demolition or construction. If there are materials that contain asbestos that will be affected by the impending project, then proper asbestos abatement needs to be done as part of the project. A building owner or resident should never attempt to remove asbestos on their own, as this is a much more dangerous situation than if the asbestos-containing material was simply left alone.
Asbestos has qualities that make it a great item for many applications, but these same qualities also pose significant health risks from exposure to it. While it may seem cumbersome to have to deal with an asbestos investigation in New York City, Lower Manhattan, Williamsburg, Bushwick, Greenpoint, and the surrounding areas, the importance on health and safety dictate that these asbestos inspections be done.
At Coastal Inspections Testing, we will help you to get these asbestos inspections done quickly and properly, just contact us to schedule yours.
